The Northern Territory continues to experience the highest rate of homelessness in Australia at 12 times the national average. This is driven by a critical shortage of affordable, accessible and appropriate housing.

Homelessness Week is an important time to raise awareness, amplify lived experience, and call for urgent action to ensure everyone in the Territory has a safe place to call home.

During Homelessness Week, NT Shelter will be hosting two events in Alice Springs aimed at bringing the community together to learn, connect, receive and show support.

This powerful film shares the stories of women over 50, the fastest-growing group experiencing homelessness in Australia. Join us for an evening of reflection with seating, snacks and warm drinks provided.

Community Link Up Event – Hosted by City of Darwin

 Casuarina Library, 17 Bradshaw Terrace, Casuarina
As part of Homelessness Week, City of Darwin Libraries is hosting Community Link Up,  a morning dedicated to connection, compassion, and practical support. People experiencing or at risk of homelessness will be able to access essential information and support for housing, health, legal, aged care, and Centrelink. Free on-site services include: haircuts (Deadly Hair Dude NT), laundry and showers (Orange Sky), hearing checks (Amplifon), and eye screenings (Deadly Vision Centre). CafeSmart Participating Cafes
CafeSmart is an annual coffee-focused fundraiser that brings together local cafes, roasters, and coffee lovers to help tackle homelessness and support those at risk. Money raised through CafeSmart stays local, helping charities in the same communities where it was donated to support people facing homelessness.
