Our Team

NT Shelter advocates for appropriate and affordable housing for all members of the community, particularly disadvantaged groups and those on low incomes. Our team comprises an experienced, independent, skills-based board and dedicated professional staff in Darwin and Alice Springs with experience across the affordable housing & homelessness sector.

Board Members

Jean Ah Chee

President
Jean is Catholic Care NT’s Regional Manager. Jean has worked in a number of senior management roles across health, education and housing; Indigenous NGO and the Government sector. President of NT Shelter’s Board since 2014, Jean has lived and worked in regional and remote Australia for over forty years.

John McBryde

Vice President
John is the Chief Executive Officer of the Central Australian Affordable Housing Company (CAAH). As a housing professional, John has over 20 years’ experience in community and affordable housing, corporate real estate and commercial property management. After taking a break from housing to work with the Central Land Council’s Community Development Unit, John took up the CEO role with CAAH in March 2018.

Robert Cooper

Treasurer
Robert is the Chief Executive Officer of Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation, working to ensure the Corporation’s long-term survival and growth, strengthening the Corporation’s relationships, vision and effectiveness, to ensure the views of the Larrakia Nation are reflected across a broad spectrum of activities. Robert has worked with Indigenous people across the Top End from Cape York to Darwin for over twenty years.

Joan Meredith

Secretary
A resident of the Territory and staff member since 2007, Joan holds the housing portfolio for Red Cross NT. Her connection to Public Housing programs is not NT based. She worked for many years with YWCA Melbourne and Victoria and carried management responsibility for a number of housing projects over that time. Working to address the homelessness issues of women (particularly older women) is one of Joan's passions.

Leeanne Caton

Board Member

Leeanne is the CEO of Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation.

Ashley Perez

Board Member

Ashley is the Executive Manager, Children & Homelessness at Anglicare NT. Previously, Ashley spent a decade in national program management, working with The Foundation for Young Australians, headspace and the Brotherhood of St Laurence where he held senior management roles. Ashley holds a Masters of Social Science (Policy & Human Services) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Michael Soler

Board Member

Michael has previously worked as Business Support Unit Manager with Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation; Council Services Manager for Galiwinku (largest community in East Arnhem Regional Council), Shire Services Manager for the Kintore Community, Divisional Returning Officer for the Australia Electoral Commission, Centrelink Regional Manager in Western Victoria, as well as leadership roles in Black Saturday Bushfire Response.

Janet Lash Wright

Board Member

Janet Lash Wright is the CEO of Disability Advocacy Service, supporting people living with a disability and their families. She has lived in the NT for 23 years, living in Alice Springs, Ampilatwatja and Darwin. Janet has qualifications in Business, Social Service, Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Governance. She currently sits on the Board of Watch This Space and the Life Promotion Network.

Lawson Broad

Board Member

Lawson Broad is the CEO of Somerville Community Services.

Merrilee Cox

Board Member

Merrilee is the CEO of the Mental Health Association of Central Australia. She has worked in the NGO sector for 40 years and has extensive experience on Boards, including NT Mental Health Coalition. Merrilee has completed the AICD Company Director’s Course and holds a Masters in Social Policy and Management. She is passionate about social justice generally, and the crucial role that housing plays in allowing people to live well in the community.

Junie Baptiste-Poitevien

Board Member

Junie is the Coordinator of the Katherine Doorways Hub with The Salvation Army.

Staff Members

Peter McMillan Executive Office NT Shelter
Peter is an experienced executive with senior leadership roles across manufacturing, mining and the not-for-profit sector. Prior to joining NT Shelter, Peter was Executive Officer at Regional Development Australia (RDA) Central West. This is his second stint in the NT, having previously lived and worked at Groote Eylandt for three years. Peter has professional qualifications in commerce, international business and supply chain management.

Donna Feltus Office Manager
Donna has nearly 20 years’ experience in a range of administrative roles across the public, private and education sectors. Prior to joining NT Shelter, she worked for a small professional association in the NT, providing a full range of administrative and organisational support to the committee. Donna has called the Top End home for 15 years.

Michael brings to the NT Shelter team a wealth of knowledge regarding homelessness issues, accommodation and housing services and program design. He has 14 years’ experience working in Homelessness at St Vincent de Paul NT, and in the private sector as a small business owner and manager. Mike is passionate about the need to adopt person centred approaches to overcome societal issues.

Hannah Purdy Regional Coordinator - Central Australia
Hannah comes to NT Shelter with stakeholder management, policy analysis, strategic communications and media experience in both the private and community sectors. This experience includes working for Victoria’s largest provider of youth homelessness services, and the state-wide access point for young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
