Our Team

NT Shelter advocates for appropriate and affordable housing for all members of the community, particularly disadvantaged groups and those on low incomes. Our team comprises an experienced, independent, skills-based board and dedicated professional staff in Darwin and Alice Springs with experience across the affordable housing & homelessness sector.

Lawson Broad

Lawson Broad is the CEO of Somerville Community Services.

John McBryde

Vice President
John is the Chief Executive Officer of Community Housing Central Australia (CHCA). As a housing professional, John has over 20 years’ experience in community and affordable housing, corporate real estate and commercial property management. After taking a break from housing to work with the Central Land Council’s Community Development Unit, John took up the CEO role with CHCA in March 2018. John is also the NT Regional Director for the Community Housing Industry Association.

Robert Cooper

Robert is the Chief Executive Officer of Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation, working to ensure the Corporation’s long-term survival and growth, strengthening the Corporation’s relationships, vision and effectiveness, to ensure the views of the Larrakia Nation are reflected across a broad spectrum of activities. Robert has worked with Indigenous people across the Top End from Cape York to Darwin for over twenty years.

Joan Meredith

A resident of the Territory and staff member since 2007, Joan holds the housing portfolio for Red Cross NT. Her connection to Public Housing programs is not NT based. She worked for many years with YWCA Melbourne and Victoria and carried management responsibility for a number of housing projects over that time. Working to address the homelessness issues of women (particularly older women) is one of Joan's passions.

Leeanne Caton

Board Member

Leeanne Caton is the CEO of Yilli Housing, where she has recently lead the organisation in achieving registration as a Community Housing Provider, and in the project management of $27 million in housing and infrastructure upgrades in the communities they service. She has worked in state, territory and Commonwealth government at all levels and social indicator areas, including Aboriginal housing, and lead a WA Aboriginal-owned housing company prior to returning to the Territory in 2015.

Ashley Perez

Board Member

Ashley is the Executive Manager, Families & Homelessness at Anglicare NT. Previously, Ashley spent a decade in national program management, working with The Foundation for Young Australians, headspace and the Brotherhood of St Laurence where he held senior management roles. Ashley holds a Masters of Social Science (Policy & Human Services) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Michael Soler

Board Member

Michael has previously worked as Business Support Unit Manager with Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation; Council Services Manager for Galiwinku (largest community in East Arnhem Regional Council), Shire Services Manager for the Kintore Community, Divisional Returning Officer for the Australia Electoral Commission, Centrelink Regional Manager in Western Victoria, as well as leadership roles in Black Saturday Bushfire Response.

Anne Gawen

Board Member

Anne Gawen is the CEO of TeamHEALTH. She has worked extensively in the Community Services Sector, including children services, family carers, disability, ageing and mental health services across South Australia. Anne is a passionate leader within the community sector and places great value on relationships to deliver outcomes and furthering standards of excellence. Anne is an experienced Board director. She has a Master's of Business Administration and is a graduate of the Company Directors governance course.

Jean Ah Chee

Board Member

Jean has worked in a number of senior management roles across health, education and housing; Indigenous NGO and the Government sector. Jean has lived and worked in regional and remote Australia for over forty years, and been a member of the NT Shelter Board since 2009.

Merrilee Cox

Board Member

Merrilee is the CEO of the Mental Health Association of Central Australia. She has worked in the NGO sector for 40 years and has extensive experience on Boards, including NT Mental Health Coalition. Merrilee has completed the AICD Company Director’s Course and holds a Masters in Social Policy and Management. She is passionate about social justice generally, and the crucial role that housing plays in allowing people to live well in the community.

Shaun Pearce

Board Member

Shaun Pearce is the CEO of Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation, a large indigenous owned NFP organisation, where he has successfully steered Ironbark into the For-Profit space, achieving financial stability and growth for the organisation. He has held Senior Management positions for the last 20 years, he holds a Diploma of Business (Governance) from the Institute of Community Directors Australia and sits on multiple Boards in Darwin

Peter McMillan Executive Office NT Shelter
Peter is an experienced executive with senior leadership roles across manufacturing, mining and the not-for-profit sector. Prior to joining NT Shelter, Peter was Executive Officer at Regional Development Australia (RDA) Central West. This is his second stint in the NT, having previously lived and worked at Groote Eylandt for three years. Peter has professional qualifications in commerce, international business and supply chain management.

Donna Feltus Office Manager
Donna has nearly 20 years’ experience in a range of administrative roles across the public, private and education sectors. Prior to joining NT Shelter, she worked for a small professional association in the NT, providing a full range of administrative and organisational support to the committee. Donna has called the Top End home for 15 years.

Michael brings to the NT Shelter team a wealth of knowledge regarding homelessness issues, accommodation and housing services and program design. He has 14 years’ experience working in Homelessness at St Vincent de Paul NT, and in the private sector as a small business owner and manager. Mike is passionate about the need to adopt person centred approaches to overcome societal issues.

Annie Taylor
Annie has over ten years' experience working for not-for-profit, private and non-governmental organisations in various communications-based roles, including health promotion and marketing. She brings experience in marketing and communications, promotions and stakeholder engagement and management. She holds undergraduate degrees in journalism and arts and a Masters Degree in International Public Health.
