NT Shelter has responded to the Northern Territory Budget, acknowledging steps taken on housing investment while warning that the current balance of spending risks entrenching higher long-term costs rather than addressing the root causes of community safety.
CEO Annie Taylor said safer communities are a shared priority, but the pathway to achieving them must include investment in housing.
“We welcome the funding that has been committed to housing, and we recognise the government’s efforts in this space. But the scale of what’s been allocated falls short of what’s needed at a time when demand continues to grow and housing pressures are flowing into other systems.”
